Proposed budget cuts to the NEA & NEH

Tuesday, April 04, 2017 1:08 PM | Renae Block (Administrator)

Dear Fellow NJMTA Members,

As the New Jersey Arts Advocacy Chairperson and the President of New Jersey Music Teachers Association, we are writing to urge you to act on the budget cuts that are part of the proposed national budget.

As stated on the Arts Action Fund site (www.artsactionfund.org), the Trump Administration has now put out two proposals to cut the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).  For the current fiscal year, the Trump Administration would like Congress to immediately cut $15 million from the NEA and the NEH (National Endowment for the Humanities) apiece. For next year, the Administration would like to fully terminate both of these two cultural agencies.

We know that all of us will suffer the consequences of these severe proposed budget cuts.

The Americans for the Arts Action Fund provides a very clear and concise mode of action in response to the proposed budge cuts.  Please open this link (https://votervoice.net/mobile/ARTSUSA/Campaigns/47344/Respond)and follow the wonderful guidelines that are clearly stated in their Action Alert.  They have two appropriate Messages (Subject, Body, Signature) to send to your US Representative and to our US Senators.

Thank you for your attention to this letter.  We hope that all of you will act and let our Congressional Representatives know that we oppose budget cuts to our culture.
