2019 Conference - Intermediate Master Class

The NJMTA Intermediate Piano Master Class is NOT an auditioned event. Dr. Helen Marlais, the clinician for this year's master class, has selected the following student performers anonymously, based only on their repertoire and age, to perform during the 2019 NJMTA conference.

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Each teacher may submit a maximum of two students to play in the Master Class. Students who have played in the 2018 and 2017 master class are not eligible to participate in 2019.

  2. Teachers should select pieces from the standard intermediate piano repertoire such as Baroque Minuets/Dances, Bach: Short Preludes & Fugues, Inventions and Sinfonias, Sonatinas by Clementi, Sonatas Op. 49 by Beethoven or early Haydn Sonatas, Chopin’s easier Waltzes, easier Songs Without Words by Mendelssohn, Schumann or Tchaikovsky Albums for the Young, Kabalevsky Children Pieces, etc. There are no required or set pieces to prepare.

  3. No piece should exceed 5 minutes in length.  Pieces should be memorized and well prepared. 

  4. The deadline for submitting the registration email is October 31, 2019.

  5. After we receive all of the applications, Dr. Marlais will make the selection of 4–5 students to perform at the master class. The names of students who have been selected by the artists will be posted on NJMTA’s website, and the teachers of those students will also be notified via email or phone.   Students are not allowed to change the selection of pieces once selected.
