KAREN DALLEY
“Body Mapping for Music Performance”
A basic understanding of the structure of the body helps students play more naturally and musically. Teachers can incorporate some simple exercises at lessons and for practice to develop better tone, timing, and phrasing. Ms. Dalley will describe Barbara Conable’s “Body Mapping” philosophy to help musicians without pain.
Karen Dalley holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Michigan. She studied piano with Louis Nagel, Nelita True, and Seymour Lipkin. Her faculty appointments include co-director of the Adult Piano Program (Montgomery County, Maryland), The Hoff Barthelson Music School, The New School for Music Study, The Mason Gross Extension Division of Rutgers University, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and Westminster Conservatory. Ms. Dalley runs a studio in Lawrenceville.
REBECCA PENNINGTON
“Celebrating Diversity: Resources for Group Classes”
In this presentation, Dr. Pennington will share resources for including music by diverse composers and from many countries around the world in classes for children. The materials shared will include musicianship activities as well as composition projects and repertoire studies.
Rebecca Mergen Pennington has been a member of the faculty of The New School for Music Study since 2007. She currently serves as Administrative Director. Dr. Pennington has been a frequent performer in faculty recitals, and teaches the popular Piano Detectives Club class for kindergarten students. She holds a DMA and MM in Piano Performance from the University of Kansas and a BM in Music Education from Concordia College.

“The Roll of the Thumb”
“The Roll of the Thumb” will explore descending scales in the right hand. We will look at movements which often defy detection. Ms. Tammam will share ideas from leading pedagogues as well as from Dr. Frank R. Wilson, author of The Hand.
Sondra Tammam, recognized internationally as a pianist and pedagogue, with appearances and masterclasses in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Faculty of Montclair State University since 2014 and Manhattan School of Music Precollege. Ms. Tammam, NCTM, received the 2018 Teacher of the Year Award from NJMTA. Co-director of Taubman Festival, www.taubman universal approach.org. Paderewski Foundation debuts in Carnegie Weill, Wigmore, Concertgebouw, performances Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall. BM, Manhattan School of Music, MM, the Juilliard School.

“Preparing for RCM exams: From an Examiner's View”
This presentation will explore how to invest time in Ear Training and Sight Reading in weekly lessons to benefit repertoire learning and exam preparation. Ms. Hiraiwa will discuss a rough time line for exam preparation.
Ikumi Hiraiwa joined the College of Examiners for The Royal Conservatory of Music Certificate Program in 2018. She currently maintains a full private studio in Lawrenceville, NJ, and instructs piano and theory at Westminster Conservatory of Music. Previous post includes teaching Aural Skills at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University. She holds B.A. from UCLA and M.M. from Westminster Choir College of Rider University, and is a certified member (NCTM) of MTNA and NJMTA.
JEE-HOON KRSKA
“Piano Bus: Bringing Piano Lessons to Unlikely Spaces”
This presentation describes an example of a community outreach program that brings music education to underserved areas where other programs have not reached.
Jee-Hoon Krska is the founder of Keys 2 Success. She studied piano at Juilliard pre-college and MIT (Ph.D. EECS). She has performed in Boston Symphony Hall, Lincoln Center, and with Yo-Yo Ma. In addition, Dr. Krska spent 20 years in engineering. During this time, she also engaged in several projects serving Newark youths, ultimately leading to her decision to work full-time with the children of Newark by founding Keys 2 Success.
