CAROL COMUNE has earned a reputation as one of today’s premiere pianists, performances throughout the eastern US both as a soloist and a chamber musician and as a streaming Spotify Artist. Carol is a graduate of the NEC, Boston, MA (BM Piano Performance, David Hagan). Graduate studies: Piano Pedagogy, Jean Stackhouse (NEC); Composition, John Felice (NEC); and influential mentors Donald Waxman; the late concert pianist, Anthony di Bonaventura, and celebrated Russian teacher Madame Isabelle Vengerova.
A multi-faceted musician, teacher, composer, recording artist and Steinway Artist, Carol founded, Elegant Entertainment & Co. (BMI) in 1985, producing thirteen, critically acclaimed albums ranging from Original Contemporary to Classical. Her albums have received world-wide recognition with 28 million all-time streams through Spotify, with her newest album, “The Perfect Place to Be” 2020 already receiving 3 Million Streams.
Carol has been a member of the MTNA for over 30 years and has had an active private studio since 1973. Past teaching positions include New England Conservatory Prep School; Berklee College of Music, MA and Palm Beach Atlantic University; Conservatory at Lynn University, FL. In 2016-2017, Carol was honored with the Steinway Top Teacher Award. Her students are recipients of outstanding achievements in popular musical organizations including: Music-fest (Rising Talents); RCM Exams; and performances in Weill Hall and Merkin Hall.
Carol will talk about the phases of learning technology, and challenges she has met using platforms like JamKazam. As the process becomes more natural, she is still humored by the ups and downs of the process and the unexpected technology connections.
MIRIAM ELEY is currently a Master Faculty member in piano of Westminster Conservatory of Music in Princeton, New Jersey. She was Adjunct Assistant Professor at Westminster Choir College of Rider University for 22 years, teaching within the piano secondary program. Prior to 2005 and in addition to her teaching and performing career, Ms. Eley held several administrative positions at Westminster Conservatory for 16 years. Her formal education is from Indiana University (M.M. in piano performance, with distinction); Baylor University (B.M. in piano performance); Peabody Conservatory of Music and Interlochen Arts Academy (Diploma). Ms. Eley received additional training in piano pedagogy (1987-89) with Frances Clark and Louise Goss at The New School for Music Study in Kingston, NJ. She later taught at the New School and served as Coordinator of the Preparatory Division (1989-91). Ms. Eley began composing and studying piano at age three. Her recently self published piano duets African Vignettes and French Sweets plus 2 solo collections, Childhood Daydreams Book I and II have been taught by faculty and performed by students within and outside of the Conservatory. Her piano teachers include James Tocco, Roger Keyes, Jo Boatwright, Fernando Laires, Drusilla Huffmaster and her mother, Anita Hopson Henderson. Past teaching positions include Brewton-Parker College, Southwestern Baptist Seminary School of Church Music and Indiana University (Associate Instructor). Miriam Eley has performed throughout the country as piano soloist and collaborative pianist, and has adjudicated numerous local, state and regional piano festivals, auditions and competitions in California, Georgia, Texas, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania.
Miriam will discuss how online teaching during this unprecedented time includes planning, reaching out for help, exploring resources, and flexibility.
NANCY MODELL, a Suzuki Piano Teacher Trainer who employs the Taubman Approach to enhance Suzuki Piano Pedagogy, inspires her piano students to reach their potential through innovative learning opportunities, including original composition. She is Piano Coordinator of the New Jersey Suzuki Workshop and is the Immediate Past-President of the MEA-NJ.
Nancy feels that in our current situation, parental support is paramount and she is so fortunate that the parents of her Suzuki students have been involved all along and continue to support her on this journey. She looks forward to sharing the 'what' and 'how' of the online goings-on in my studio.
Pianist ESMA PASIC-FILIPOVIC has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Europe and the USA. She holds her Masters Degree from the Academy of Art in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia. She specialized in music history at the University of Innsbruck with Prof. Walter Salmen. She was an accompanist at the Music Academy of the University of Sarajevo as well as at the Hochschule fur Darstellende Kunst in Vienna. Since 1998 she has been a member of the piano faculty of the Westminster Conservatory and since 2016 she has been a staff accompanist at the Westminster Choir College. From 2002 she has been staff accompanist for the Flute Camp at the Conservatory, led by flutist Gerald Carey. Her students have won numerous prices at the competitions of regional and international levels. In 2016 she was awarded the position as Director of the Honors Music Program, prep division program at the Westminster Conservatory. Ms.Pasic-Filipovic is adjudicating intensively and performing as chamber music musician and soloist.
Esma will discuss how a team of teachers worked together to save the chamber music program of Westminster Conservatory’s Honor Music Program.
DANIELLE SINCLAIR has performed with orchestras throughout the country in works ranging from Bach’s Magnificat and St. John Passion to Respighi’s Lauda per la Natività del Signore and Orff’s Carmina Burana. She has appeared in numerous operatic roles including Musetta in La Bohème, Despina in Così fan tutte, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel and Mabel in Pirates of Penzance. In 1990 she won Seattle’s 200+1 Vocal Competition, and in 1995 the prestigious Opera at Florham Guild Competition. Ms. Sinclair has been a frequent guest artist in Westminster Conservatory’s concert and recital series and performs frequently with the Princeton Society of Musical Amateurs. In 2004 she performed in the ensemble of the world premiere performance of Charles Wuorinen’s opera Haroun and the Sea of Stories with New York City Opera. She can also be heard as soloist on the Seattle Symphony Chorale’s recording Singing a Glad Noel. Ms. Sinclair is currently head of the Voice Department of Westminster Conservatory, where she also heads the Honors Music Voice Program.
Danielle will discuss alternative sound solutions to enhance your Zoom experience, using JamKazam and Soundjack for private lessons, and audio and video tools for remote learning.
